But what makes Friars Bay a favorite anchorage for us is its exceptional protection. It is the most sheltered bay from both wind and swell on this side of the island, offering a calm and comfortable holding ground even when conditions pick up elsewhere. For added privacy, we like to anchor a little farther from the beach, away from the busiest swimming areas.
The shoreline itself is a treat: rugged and beautiful, dotted with tall cacti, and if you look closely into the trees, you’ll often spot iguanas basking in the sun.
