Baie Rouge – peace & serenity

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BAIE ROUGE / RED BAY

ABOUT

Nestled on the western shores of Saint Martin lies Baie Rouge Beach, a secluded haven for travelers seeking serenity and natural beauty. This Caribbean gem offers an escape from the crowds, which is why this is one of our favorite beaches.

The beach is known for its fine, pinkish sands which stretches over 1.5 km along the shore, surrounded by red rocky cliffs which house some of the most beautiful homes in Saint Martin.

WHAT TO DO

Whilst you won’t find any restaurants or shops on this beach (google maps still indicates that there is, but this is outdated information), it is the perfect spot for those wanting to avoid the crowds and explore nature.

A few of our favorite things to do here:

Street Art

If you arrive by car, you’ll immediately be greeted by one of our islands’ local street art. This ‘HeavenSteps’ named arch leads you to the beach via a set of stairs and was created by local artist Wall Art St Martin (Instagram: @wallartstmartin). They have street art all around the island and it is definitely worth a drive around to admire the different pieces.

Swimming & snorkel

On calmer days, you can swim, snorkel or kayak around the most eastern point (when you’re looking at the ocean, the rock point on your right) which has a beautiful medieval-like stone structure built on it, and is followed by a stunning little beach. This is one of the places where we like to anchor out as it is secluded and is surrounded with more beautiful rocky cliffs. The next point to which you can swim, has a natural stone arch through which you can swim to again another secluded beach.

And if you think it ends here; for those who want the full experience and workout, you can continue to the next point where you will find the Trou de David (David’s hole), accessible by both swimming or kayak/paddleboard, which brings you to yet another secluded beach.

Tranquil Atmosphere

Unlike some of the busier beaches on the island, Baie Rouge is celebrated for its peaceful and serene ambiance. It’s an ideal destination for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy a tranquil day by the sea.

HOW TO GET THERE

Car

Even though the beach feels secluded, it is in fact only about 150 m away from the main road, and has a parking lot right by the entrance. The road access is from the the main road of the Lowlands, location is here

Private boat

Those who want to enjoy the beach from the water, can anchor out at any of the 3 beaches, though the rocky seabed right in front of the main beach can be difficult to anchor out when the water is rough.
Baie Rouge is one of our favorite beaches. Located on the Western corner of Saint Martin, we love Baie Rouge for its intimate and quiet atmosphere. If you want to avoid crowded beaches, this is where to go.

If you don’t feel swimming, you can take the onboard kayak or paddleboard or your Captain can even take you over by. Another favourite is a kayak tow!
